Reading slushpile manuscripts and revisions is the order of the week!
Pressing Matters: Week of Feb. 25-March 1, 2013
Acquisitions
- Nothing new to report for the moment, although we’re working our way through a couple of requested fulls…
Editing
- Revisions are in on Infinity Key and on Unannounced Project, and the re-editing is going well! Although the sheer number of tracked changes and colour-coded comments in Infinity Key is dazzling.
Production
- Cover art for Blue Diamond Delivery is coming together. Best quip in this round of revisions: Introducing “Skepticles”® – the spectacles that make you look skeptical!
- The Daughter Star has a print layout, and it’s purty.
- So it turns out that beautifully painted covers rendered in Corel Painter are…big. Really big. “Exceeds printer’s maximum file up load size” big. Thankfully, we had a spare blank CD around (exactly ONE of them…), so files for The Other Half of the Sky have been burned and mailed off.
Reviews, Promotions, and Buzz
- Publishers Weekly has reviewed The Other Half of the Sky! We totally agree that “space opera aficionados of all persuasions will enjoy these [stories].”
- We have a winner in our Mr Blank fnord-finding contest! Congratulations to Paul C., who wins a Kobo Mini loaded with all the Candlemark & Gleam titles – plus a few upcoming releases!
- Constellation Games author Leonard Richardson is getting some amazing buzz – and well-deserved praise. From the likes of Cory Doctorow, no less.
Sundries
- YA author Malinda Lo has a must-read post on how authors can curate their online presence. The big takeaway? Be your best self. Good advice all around, really!
- It seems that cats have always had an inclination for fussing over books.
- Spending much of the week grumbling at the C&G computer. We’re trying to make it hold out, but it’s getting increasingly cantankerous, and that doesn’t bode well…
