Pressing Matters: Week of March 18-22, 2013

Editing

  1. Going through Infinity Key by Chrysoula Tzavelas and continually being impressed by how human her characters are. Even when they’re decidedly not mortal. And even more so when they are.
  2. Digging into revisions for II Crimsonstreak after Matt Adams’s intense rewrite.
  3. Editing supplemental materials for Justin Robinson’s City of Devils is hilarious and awesome, not least because there are vintage lonely hearts ads involved. Yes, you read that right.

Production

  1. We managed to get a new proof copy for The Other Half of the Sky made and rush-shipped, and it was worth the stress of UPS losing the first one – it’s gorgeous. See for yourself!
  2. Soon, we’ll be unveiling the cover for Blue Diamond Delivery, Anne E. Johnson’s followup to Green Light Delivery. Chris Sobolowski has knocked another one out of the park!
  3. Galleys of The Daughter Star by Susan Jane Bigelow are now available to our Field Agents and to folks on NetGalley. Hooray!
  4. Finishing corrections to Blue Diamond Delivery‘s layout and getting the galley ready to ship.

Reviews, Promotions, and Buzz

  1. A really good review of Matchbox Girls over on Book Lovers Inc. – we think they’ll like some of the streamlining in Infinity Key
  2. Are you going to WonderCon next weekend? Be sure to stop by and visit Justin Robinson in Booth 69 (yes, that really is his booth number) in Small Press Alley! We hear he has goodies to pass out, and also he gets sad and lonely if you don’t go show him the love. And a sad writer is a writer who stabs kittens. Think of the kittens.

Sundries

  1. Almost done rebuilding the royalties database. This cannot be done soon enough!
  2. Oh, Amazon. Whyfor you not send out 1099s, when everyone else on the planet has to deal with them? Not cool, 600 Pound Gorilla. Not cool. We know you can afford people for this kind of thing…
  3. The “next chapter” for the publishing industry involves agile practices and giving consumers what they want? Erm, yeah. We’ve been saying that for ages. Hope others start embracing it!
